Peace Hill Trail Details
This short (0.2-mile round trip) trail leads to a bluff overlooking Hawksnest Beach. An easy walk of 10 minutes takes you to the ruins of a windmill and some striking views. It's a great vantage point for photographers and smartphone photo snappers, and a frequent stop for day-trippers to the island. Peace Hill is named for a blessing Colonel Julius Wadsworth gave the area when he donated the land and a larger-than-life statue of Jesus to the park. Wadsworth's giant "Christ of the Caribbean" stayed here for years, until the saltwater had worn away several portions of the figure and Hurricane Marilyn came through in 1995 and swept it away. Though the statue is two-decades gone, many locals still refer to "Christ of the Caribbean" as a landmark. There is a small parking area here and the path is marked, but there's nothing else to speak of by way of amenities.
