Centerline Road (Highway 10) Details
Highway 10, or Centerline Road, cuts across the center of the island of St. John and Virgin Islands National Park. It runs out to the East End, 12 miles from Cruz Bay, where the pavement ends and the road turns into a dirt track. All told, it's a drive of about an hour and 15 minutes; if you want to make a loop of Highway 10 and Highway 20, the Highway 10 portion of the drive is about 7.5 miles long and will take at least 45 minutes to drive. Along the way, Centerline Road passes several notable spots, including the south trailhead for Cinnamon Bay Trail (which terminates on the north end at Highway 20); the trailhead to the Reef Bay and Petroglyph trails; Highway 108, which passes by the summit of 1,277-foot Bordeaux Mountain, the highest peak in the park; and Hurricane Hole, an area of coves, creeks, bays, and mangrove shorelines where boaters have traditionally found shelter from hurricanes.
