Moraine Lake Highline Details

If you want a ride that will really challenge you, choose the Moraine Lake Highlight trail, known as the most demanding of all Lake Louise trails. This single track trail climb an elevation of 305 meters (1,000 feet) onto the shoulder of Mount Temple, followed by a descent to Moraine Lake, considered one of the best spots in all of the Canadian Rockies. Roots and rocks along the trail will keep you pre-occupied, and the upper section of the trail is often exposed as it follows side hills. All of that doesn't matter, though, when you see the incredible views fro the top. For a loop ride, combine with Moraine Lake Road. When planning this time, be aware that the upper section of the trail is closed for all users (this trail is popular with hikers, too) when buffalo berries ripen in mid- to late-summer. These berries are an important food for bears, and closing the trail allows grizzles to forage uninterrupted. Be sure to check with the Lake Louise Visitor Centre and trailhead signs for any closures and important information before setting out on your ride. Trail guides and cycling maps are available, and be sure to follow the park's rules and regulations to make the most of your ride: be bear aware; ride on designated trails; avoid riding during extreme conditions; help preserve the trails' quality; know your limits; yield to other riders; and, of course, leave no trace. **Trail Type:** Out and Back **Difficulty:** Difficult **Distance:** 18.6 kilometers round trip (11.6 miles) **Trailhead:** Small parking area off of Moraine Lake Road **Connector:** Moraine Lake Road
