Boating

The vast majority of Glacier National Bay visitors explore the park by water; inlets, bays, and other passageways allow for almost limitless exploration by boat. Visitors have the option to explore Glacier Bay by private vessel, cruise ship, tour vessel, or charter boat. Park visitors with private motorized vessels are required to obtain a free permit from the Visitor Information Station in Bartlett Cove upon arrival. Cruise ship visitors do not typically disembark in the park, but a park naturalist often comes onboard to deliver educational programs. A park concessionaire also offers daily boat tours during the summer months, departing from Glacier Bay Lodge in Bartlett Cove.
