Cannonball Concretions Pullout Details

The unique features known as "cannonball concretions" are hard to miss at this pullout. Look for them on the ground and weathering out of the cliff as round spheres or other features that look like art sculptures. Many look like actual round cannonballs, though they can be as small as a grain of sand or as large as 10 feet in diameter. The concretions are deposits of cement-like mineral, often calcite or silica, that slowly build around an object such as a rock and, over millennia, become a sphere or other odd formation. You can take a short trail to see them up close. Each side of these cliffs offer unique formations due to different types of wind, sun, and water exposure. New concretions are slowly developing inside the rock and will be exposed as erosion continues over time. This pullout is wheelchair-accessible.
