The Wilson Feed Mill Details
This grist mill -- also known as Alexander's Mill or the 14 Lock Mill -- was built in 1855 near Lock 37 on the Ohio & Erie Canal. Originally powered by water diverted from the canal by a mill race, it later was converted to electric power but has remained in operation for 110 years. As the name implies, the mill is used to process animal feed. You can browse the store or stroll around to check out the nearby canal lock as well as the historic mill building. Canal water still runs through the mill race and over a waterfall before returning to the canal via another manmade channel, called the tailrace.
