Terra Vista Natural Study Area

This former sand and gravel quarry was added to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in the mid-1980s, and what was once wasteland now provides a home for many native plants and animals. Mostly scrub meadow, Terra Vista is slowly evolving into a more mature habitat. Current residents include coyote, deer, and a variety of birds, and you may also see some of the 45 species of butterflies identified by naturalists and volunteers who study here. You can access the Terra Vistoa property via informal paths; in addition to wildlife you may come across the historic Terra Vista Cemetery, deer blinds, and a butterfly monitoring station.
