The Cleetwood Cove Trail, located four miles east of the junction between North Entrance Road and East Rim Drive, is the only legal and safe way of accessing the Crater Lake shoreline. The trail is steep and strenuous, descending more than 700 feet over the course of 1.1 miles (one-way), with an average grade of 11 percent. It is not recommended for individuals with poor fitness, poor physical health, or mobility issues. Round trip, the trail is 2.2 miles and takes around an hour and a half. Use the Cleetwood Cove Trail to get down to the lake for swimming, fishing, and boat tours. The Cleetwood Cove ticketing kiosk is located at the top of the Cleetwood Cove Trail. There are pit toilets at the top and bottom of the trail.
