Horseback Riding

Equestrians are given the chance to enjoy the Badlands other than on marked trails, highways, roads and other developed areas. Because there aren't any specific horse trails, however, exploring on horseback should begin with obtaining a topographical map of the park. For day rides, you can access the backcountry at the overlooks or from designated parking areas, where horse trailers may be parked. Food-wise, only weed-free hay and other processed horse food is allowed. Don't tie your horse to any features such as rock formations. Loose animals are prohibited, and horse manure must taken away from campgrounds and scattered in grazing areas around the park. Camping with horses is limited to a specified area of the Sage Creek Campground. A watering hole, the CCC Spring, is half a mile southwest of this campground.
