Deadening Nature Trail Details

Beginning at the Loft Mountain Wayside (mile 79.5), this self-guided nature trail carries you from pastureland to mature forest. Along the way, you can read information about the historic practice of "deadening," or girdling trees to allow sunlight to reach the ground for cultivation of crops or pastureland. This trail leads to a phenomenal viewpoint atop Loft Mountain, where you can see the Big Run watershed to the west.
