Skyline Drive offers a completely paved, scenic stretch to ride along and enjoy the park, offering a more intimate view of the park than from a car window. Since the surface is completely paved, road and hybrid bikes are ideal for riding on this road. Riding is generally not permitted off of Skyline Drive; the exception is a one-mile segment of Rapidan Fire Road, and it's clearly marked where bike access ends. If you are planning a bike ride along Skyline Drive, prepare for periods of low visibility and changing weather conditions. Cyclists should bring head and tail lights (reflectors may not always work in low visibility) and dress in layers. A through-bike of the park is possible by carrying gear (or using a support car to carry gear) and camping along the way.
