Basic Information

Shenandoah National Park, a sanctuary of natural splendor, invites visitors year-round to explore its wonders. Here's what you need to know about park accessibility and facility operations: Park Hours and Access: Shenandoah National Park remains open throughout the year, offering boundless opportunities for outdoor adventure and exploration. During hunting season, from October 26 to January 3, Skyline Drive, the park's main thoroughfare, operates from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closing at night. Despite this restriction, visitors are still permitted to hike into the park during these hours. Additionally, inclement weather may prompt temporary closures of Skyline Drive for safety reasons. It's advisable to check for road closures before planning your visit. Visitor Centers: The Dickey Ridge Visitor Center welcomes visitors from April 8 through November 27, operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Byrd Visitor Center operates during the winter on weekends (Friday through Sunday) from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Beginning March 24, it opens daily to accommodate visitors. Facilities: Many of Shenandoah's facilities, including campgrounds, lodging, and picnic areas, typically open their doors between late March and early May, remaining operational until late October. For the most accurate information on the operating hours of specific facilities within the park, refer to the current facility schedule provided on the official Shenandoah National Park website.
