The unofficial "gateway" to the Road to Hana, Pa'ia, Hawaii is a north coast Maui town a little more than 15 minutes from Kahului on Highway 36. A little further east this road becomes Highway 360, also known as the Hana Highway. The Hana Highway leads all the way around the east coast of Maui to the town of Hana, then continues on to reach the Kipihulu section of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. To reach the summit area of the park, take Highway 377 in Pa'ia to Highway 378, the Haleakala Highway. The trip to the park entrance will take under an hour. Pa'ia is a Maui plantation village and beach community with ample hotels, restaurants, shops, gas stations, and other services available to travelers.
