Salt Run Trail Details

One of the area's most challenging trails, this ascent and descent over rugged hills and into a valley is one of the best trails for glimpsing birds and deer, as well as enjoying the park's natural flora. The trail begins by passing over small streams and bridge and running through a mixed-hardwood forest lined with ferns and wildflowers before entering a low valley that is home to wild grapes, goldenrod, and walnut trees. The lowlands that this trail travels through are believed to have been the site of a small salt works in operation during pioneering days, thus lending the trail its name.
