Lock 29 Trailhead Details
Located along the crushed limestone path that designates the Towpath Trail, this unbelievably well preserved lock is one of the park's most understated attractions. Built over a century ago the locally cut sandstone blocks and old aqueduct trusses are still visible along the canal edge, and the marks of the original stonemasons are still legible. Theses blocks, which were also the site of mills in the early half of the 19th century almost blend in with the beautiful buckeye trees and nearby waterfall that surround it. The level path around the lock is relatively accessible, however, the trail steepens as it nears the canal and the bridge that crosses it. This small sized parking lot has approximately 30 parking spaces.
