Twentynine Palms Highway/Highway 62

Twentynine Palms Highway (California Highway 62) runs north from its intersection with the I-10 freeway near Palm Springs, through the Morongo Valley, then turns east and runs parallel to the northern border of Joshua Tree National Park. The park's most important access road connects to two of the park's three main entrance areas -- the West Entrance in Joshua Tree, Calif., and the North Entrance in Twentynine Palms, Calif. At these access points are the Joshua Tree Visitor Center and the Oasis Visitor Center, respectively. Side roads off of Highway 62 also lead to the Black Rock area of the park, the Covington Flats region, Indian Cove, the 49 Palms Oasis, and the Old Dale Mining District. In the Morongo Valley, Highway 62 also provides access to the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, which abuts the western boundary of Joshua Tree National Park.
