Owyhigh Lakes Trail Details

This mostly forested hike offers a good chance to see wildlife (from bald eagles to ospreys, deer, and elk), enjoy the scents of the forest, stand next to ancient trees, and catch glimpses of several peaks. Locate the trailhead 2 miles beyond the White River Entrance on the left (park in the clearing on the right). The trail climbs right from the start, eventually running into a series of switchbacks that lead up Tamanos Mountain and pass by Tamanos Creek Camp before leveling out before reaching the lakes. Kick back and enjoy the views of Governor's Ridge rising above the lakes. Trail stats: 7 miles; 1,350 feet of elevation gain; 3.5 hours.
