Mahogany Flat Campground (Primitive) Details

Mahogany Flat Campground is a primitive, first come, first served campground located at 8,200 feet in a pinyon pine and juniper forest high in the Panamint Mountains. With sweeping views down into Death Valley and close proximity to the Telescope Peak trailhead, it offers one of the park’s most scenic and elevated camping experiences. There is no camping fee. Access is via a dirt road that requires a high clearance vehicle, and four wheel drive is often necessary. Late spring conditions may still include snow or ice. The campground has nine sites with no hookups and no potable water. Campers must bring all necessary supplies and pack out their trash. The nearest reliable water source is approximately 30 miles north at Emigrant Rest Area. There are no services, staff, dump stations, or stores on site. Visitors should be fully self sufficient and prepared for changing mountain weather. Conditions and access are subject to change.
