Every month during the full and new moons, rangers lead moon & star programs. Full moons bring exploration of the sand dunes or Badwater by moonlight. When the moon is smallest during a new moon, rangers set up high-powered telescopes and help visitors explore the stars above. With little to no light pollution, the International Dark Sky Association has designated Death Valley a "Gold Tier" International Dark Sky Park. Visitors on moonless nights can expect to see Jupiter, Venus, the Milky Way and even the Andromeda Galaxy, 2.5 million light years away, all with the naked eye.
