Park Headquarters Visitor Center Details

The first stop for most visitors is the Park Headquarters Visitor Center. Here, you can pick up park information as well as permits for backcountry hiking and camping. Anyone planning a hike in the park should get the latest on trail conditions at the visitor center, and it's also the best spot to get kids started on the Junior Ranger Program if they're interested. The Hawaii Natural History Association runs a bookstore in the visitor center, and there's are a few picnic tables, as well. The visitor center is fully handicap accessible, including restrooms, drinking fountains, and parking areas.
