Despite being over 10,000 feet high, the summit of Haleakala does attract its share of intrepid bikers. Each day, a handful of people pedal from sea level to the summit at 10,023 feet, but far more popular are bike tours that feature a van ride to the top and a long coast downhill. Most bike tours will shuttle you to the summit in time for sunrise. Park roads are open to uphill or downhill cycling 24 hours per day. The summit road is narrow and winding, and bicyclists will be sharing the road with cars. If you're coming on your own, and not as part of a bike tour, the entrance fee for an individual cyclist is $5. Keep in mind that it's often very cold and windy above 5,000 feet.
