The park's north entrance is the closest to Ryan Campground. There are 31 sites, with about half large enough for RVs. Check in advance, as not all sites are level. There's no water and no electrical hookups at the campground. There are also four horse campsites available from October to May; reservations must be made in advance. It's an easy walk to ruins of Ryan Ranch, and there are great views of the sunset from sites on the west side. The Geology Tour Road and Skull Rock Nature Trail are nearby, as well. You can also park here if you want to climb the popular Headstone Rock (the east side of the Campground Loop, next to the bathroom, is closest). Open: All year, except the horse camp, which is open October to May Sites: 31 Elevation: 4,300 feet Reservations: Not for regular campsites; reservations are needed for the four horse campsites. Call 760-367-5545 Cost: $15/night Services include: Pit toilets, BBQ grills, picnic tables and fire rings. Potable water is available at the west entrance, Indian Cove Ranger Station, Black Rock and Cottonwood campgrounds and the visitor center in Twentynine Palms. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m, and generator use is permitted only from 7:00-9:00 a.m., 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
