Royal Arches (V23) Details
While famous for its long, technical rock-climbing routes, the sheer walls of the Arches, just below the North Dome, are equally well known for the dark, semi-concentric bows of granite that adorn their face. The discoloration on the cliff is the natural result of geologic exfoliation, or weathered fracture systems in the rock, and contrast beautifully against the lighter rock surrounding them.
