Sweeping vistas, meandering rivers, fantastic rock formations and few people make Canyonlands a photographers dream. Best images are usually captured at dawn and dusk when the fiery red rocks are glowing and the soft light flatters humans. Inclement weather may depress some visitors, but photographers delight in a desert storm or cloudy afternoons. These times offer the photographer opportunities to capture rare and intriguing images. With the Island in the Sky District, Mesa Arch is the classic sunrise shot. Tripods are handy for maximizing the interesting depth of field. Aztec Butte is a nice location for capturing images of ancient artifacts which can be successfully photographed mid-day as they are shaded by overhanging rocks. As the sun begins to set, Grand View Point is perfectly situated for immense panoramas. When the sky is especially striking, these images are spectacular.
