With so many great trails to choose from, the hardest part of hiking in Canyonlands is deciding which trail is best. Designated trails range from 0.1 miles to multi-day off-piste backpacking expeditions. Extreme desert weather can quickly turn an easy hike into an extreme and potentially dangerous adventure so plan ahead and bring plenty of water and sun protection as well as warm clothes for winter hiking. Closed-toed flat shoes are a good choice for desert hiking. Sandy and slick rock trails lead to splendid viewpoints and locations not visible from the road. Experts at the Visitor Center can help you find the most appropriate trails for your fitness level and interests as well as offer advice on backcountry routes.
