Canyonlands is an epic yet challenging place to backpack. There is plenty of room to spread out and roam in the secluded and beautiful canyons and mesas of Utah's largest national park. Water is the deal-breaker for many - there is no consistently-reliable drinking water so all backpackers need to carry their own. Despite unreliable water, Canyonlands has become increasingly popular as a backpackers destination. Permits are required for overnight use and frequently the demand for permits exceeds availability.
