North Katahdin Lake Trail Details
Accessible from Martin Ponds Trail, this trail provides access the remote Twin Ponds area. A round-trip hike from Avalanche Field to Twin Ponds is over 15 miles and is recommended as a multiple-day hike. From Martin Ponds Trail, cross Turner Brook and continue on with views of East Turner Mt. At 1.8 miles the trail junctions with an access trail to the North Katahdin Leak lean-to. Further on, at mile 2.6, cross the Baxter State Park boundary while the trail ascends gradually. The trail re-enters the Park at mile 4.6 and crosses the Twin Ponds outlet brook. The trail ends at the northern end of the westernmost Twin Pond.
