St. Mary Falls Trail Details
This is one of those hikes that affords amazing rewards without too much work. On this easy walk you'll see a series of five waterfalls and gorges. The trailhead is located on Going-to-the-Sun Road about 6.8 miles east of Logan Pass or 10.7 miles west of the St. Mary Visitor Center. The trailhead pullout is well marked and includes a shuttle stop. The three-mile hike brings you up-close to two impressive waterfalls. You descend a few hundred feet to reach Saint Mary Falls at about 1.2 miles and then climb a couple hundred feet Virginia Falls at 1.8 miles. St. Mary Falls drops about 35 feet in three separate tiers. The pools at the base of the falls are aqua-green. Virginia Falls is also multi-tiered, with the main drop falling about 50 feet. Getting close enough to the falls to feel the spray is a great way to cool off during the summer. This hike is extremely popular. Get there early to find a parking spot or take the shuttle to the trailhead. Glacier is grizzly country. Carry bear spray, make noise and travel in groups. Access is via the St. Mary Falls Trailhead.
