Trout Lake Trail Details
This hike starts near the shores of Lake McDonald, climbing up to a ridge before beginning a steep descent down to Trout Lake. You'll pass through partially burned forests before arriving at Trout Lake. The mountains you'll see from the shore — Heaven's Peak, Stanton Mountain and Rogers Mountain — make up for the lack of views on the way to the lake. There's no water along the trail, so make sure to carry some with you. Remember, Glacier is grizzly country. Carry bear spray, make noise and travel in groups. Access is via the North McDonald Road Trailhead.
