Former Coast Guard Station Details
Frequent shipwrecks off the Nauset shore led the U.S. Life Saving Service to establish one of its 13 Cape Cod stations here in 1872. The former Nauset Station gave the area its current name -- Coast Guard Beach. After the oceanfront station was decommissioned in 1959, it became the first headquarters of the Cape Cod National Seashore; today the white-and-red building houses a residential environmental-education facility.
