Kestner Homestead Trail Details
This 1.3-mile loop trail invites you take a journey back in time to the daily life of a pioneer family in the early 1900's in the rainforest wilderness. Learn about homestead life on this self-guided loop starting from the Quinault River Ranger Station. (The sign on the road says Maple Glade Trail). Named after Anton Kestner, a pioneer in the late 1880s who homesteaded this land with his family for many years, the trail is part of a homestead restoration process by Olympia National Park. It follows the footsteps of the homesteaders, winding through the rain forest of bigleaf maples and red alder as it follows Kestner Creek toward the ancient orchard and homestead site. The area is well known for its herds of elk and solitary bald eagles, and nature walks led by Park Rangers are available for a deeper perspective on the flora, fauna, and historic past surrounding the Kestner Homestead.
