Old Village (V20) Details
The Sentinel Hotel, J.J. Westfall's Meat Market, Johnny Finch's Blacksmith Shop and Cavagnaro's General Store were all landmarks that were found here back in the 19th century. This area was subject to frequent floods, however, and combined with being colder than the sunnier northern side of the Valley, it was decided that the buildings would gradually be moved to the area around Yosemite Village. Numerous buildings, such as the Wells Fargo Building and Mrs. John Degnan's residence, were moved to the Pioneer Yosemite History Center in Wawona. The only remaining building from this time period is the Yosemite Chapel. Roadside marker: V20
