East Side

Staircase Road leads to the southeast corner of Olympic National Park, an area dominated by douglas firs but also decimated periodically by fire -- necessary for the propagation of the park's giant trees. There's a 50-site campground, ranger station, and a variety of hiking trails here, but the cedar Devil's Staircase built by early explorers up the bluff of the Skokomish River is long gone.
