Just under 2 million acres in size, the Los Padres National Forest of California stretches along the coast, and inland in some regions. A major, and on-going, goal of the forest is to create more accessible recreational opportunities for people with disabilities. Some of these accessible sites include the Pino Alto Day Use Area, the Exploration Trail, the Santa Ynez Recreation Area, and about a dozen accessible campsites. Coastal visitors can take part in beachcombing and wading through tide pools.
