The highlights of the Fortynine Palm Oasis Trail are several stands of fan palms and pools of water found at the oasis, 1.5 miles from the trail's beginning. The well-maintained trail requires two to three hours and ascends about 300 feet each way, passing large numbers of barrel cacti. After winding around a ridge-top, hikers will descend into the oasis, located in a rocky canyon, where there are large boulders and shade. The trail itself, however, does not offer shade, so bring adequate water and wear a hat. The trailhead for this 3-mile roundtrip, moderately strenuous hike is at the end of 2-mile-long Canyon Road, just off Twentynine Palms Highway, five miles west of the Oasis Visitor Center. There is a parking area.
