Wawona Hotel Details
You may be a bit startled by your first view of the Lodge. Unlike most hotels in the national parks, this historic property eschews rustic decor for high Victorian style. A National Historic Landmark, Wawona Hotel opened in 1879 and sits roughly midway between the Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. One of the big attractions here is the resort's nine-hole golf course, which opened in 1918 and today is certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Check at the golf shop for tee times if you want to play. Tennis is also a bargain: free for hotel guests, just $5.00 per hour for non-guests. Most nights, there is piano music in the lobby, and if you're here on a Saturday evening, you can join in one of the Big Trees Lodge's famous outdoor barbecues.
