Old Point Loma Lighthouse Details

Watching over the coast of San Diego, this historic lighthouse sits at the 400-foot summit of the Point Loma peninsula near the entrance of the San Diego Bay. Unlike other lighthouses, the lightkeeper and their families lived inside the tower, raising kids, farming animals, and growing vegetables. It was only in operation for 46 years (1855-1891) until it was replaced by the New Point Loma Lighthouse. But in the 1980s, the lighthouse was restored to its original appearance in the late 1800s. Visitors can now visit the lighthouse to see how the lightkeepers lived and sustained themselves during this time.
