Famous for its jagged peaks and colored layered walls, this canyon is the crown gem of the Mecca Hills Recreation Area. You can reach it by taking the 4.5-mile looped Ladder Canyon Trail, which runs along the base of the canyon. Keep an eye out for bighorn sheep, spotted bats, and tortoises that also have been seen roaming through the desert.
