Morro Rock Details

This 581-foot tall volcanic plug sits at the mouth of Morro Bay connected only to the mainland by a thin strip of shoreline. It is an important habitat for the endangered peregrine falcons, although it is also a nesting area for three types of cormorants and two types of gulls. Other marine life like sea lions and sea otters can also be found resting on the rock, while hermit crabs, starfish, and sea cucumbers live in the tide pools at the base. Climbing on the rock is strictly prohibited, although you will still have amazing views from the beach as well as the surrounding cliffs.
