This crescent-shaped beach hugging the shores of Carmel Bay is known for its idyllic surf conditions and vibrant sunset views. However, it is also a popular hangout spot for families and pet-owners, as the 1-mile long beach is perfect for a day of sunbathing or sandcastle building (do not miss the annual Sandcastle building contest that takes place here in September). While you can go swimming, keep in mind that the waters tend to be cold, even in the middle of summer. It is a nice feeling on those humid days, although surfers and boogie boarders should come prepared with wetsuits.
