This 70-foot waterfall on the Pit River near Shasta Lake is one of the best places to go swimming in California. The waters are nice and cold, which makes it the perfect spot for cooling off from the mid-day heat. Just watch out for the cliff-jumpers and rope-swingers flinging themselves in the waters around you. Access to the waterfall is down an unmarked dirt road 1/4 mile, so make sure to bring your hiking boots in addition to your swimsuit.
