Tracing the former route of the Southern Pacific Railroad, this trail snakes by the rocky coastline of the Pacific Ocean. You will start your journey at Lovers Point Park and make your way up north, enjoying views of the crashing waves to your left. The trail then passes the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Fishermans Shoreline Park, and San Carlos Beach before heading to the bustling Fishermans Wharf area. And that is all in the first 2 miles! The rest of the 18-mile journey becomes a little more commercial as you cruise past Sand City and by California State University Monterey Bay. You will then head inland towards Castroville, where you will wrap up the last leg of your trip. The entire trail is paved, but there are some hills to keep the terrain interesting.
