Lost Coast Trail Details
If you are looking for an off-the-grid hiking adventure, this is the trail for you. A desolate landscape free of roads, facilities, or even marked paths, this 24.6-mile route snakes across the coast from Mattole to Black Sands Beach. For the average hiker, the entire trip will take 5 or 6 days to complete (there are almost a dozen camp spots along the way). In addition to the grassy dunes, coastal prairies, rocky cliffs, almost 1/3 of the trail is intertidal, which means it is only accessible when the tide is low. This along with the multi-day journey over rugged terrain makes it only suitable for experienced hikers.
