John Muir Trail Details
Not for the faint of heart, this epic 215-mile journey is one of the most scenic hikes in the country. It traverses the untamed wilderness of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range while also taking you past Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and the Sequoia National Parks. Over the course of three weeks, you will also cross six mountain passes and ascend a total of 46,000-feet. The highest point is 14,505-feet (the summit of Mount Whitney and your terminus point if you are going north to south). While there are dozens of sights to see along the way, a few notable landmarks include Half Dome, Thousand Island Lake, and the Devils Postpile National Monument. The trail starts in Yosemite National Park, and continues 215 miles through the Ansel Adams Wilderness, Sequoia National Park, King's Canyon National Park, and ends at the highest peak in the continental United States, Mount Whitney at 14,496 ft.
