Castle Dome Details

Located in the Castle Crags State Park, the 5.2-mile trek to this iconic rock formation is best left to experienced hikers. The first part of the trail seems relatively harmless as it winds through the lush, shady forest. However, it soon switches to a rocky path that requires scrambling and climbing to reach the peak of the granite rock. It is also completely exposed for the last 2 miles, which can make it even more challenging if you are hiking in summer. From atop the dome, you will have amazing views of Mount Shasta and the Grey Rocks, which is well worth the effort.
