Boy Scout Tree Trail (Redwookds) Details
This is a fantastic out-and-back trail that leads through varied redwood ecosystems; it starts in an ancient grove then gains higher elevations where woodlands are made up of smaller redwood trees, and eventually leads to a mixed forest dotted with giant redwoods. Begin the hike from the marked trailhead on the north side of Howland Hill Road. After 2.5 miles, an unmarked but well-established spur trail takes you to the Boy Scout Tree, a double redwood discovered by a local scout leader. The trail's terminus is at Fern Falls, where you'll turn around and retrace your steps.
