Route 116--Sonoma County Details

A road trip through California wine country is one of the best ways to spend a free day. Starting in Sonoma, you will pass vineyard-covered hills and redwood forests as you head northwest towards the ocean. There are quite a few wineries along the way (although remember not to drink and drive) as well as several small towns where you can stop for lunch. Part of the journey does merge onto Highway 101, so do not get confused if you think you are going the wrong way. You will then exit 101 and head another 35 miles towards the coast, which acts as a fantastic viewpoint for the end of your trip.
