Birding Details
There are more than 660 species of birds that have been documented in California which is more than any other state in the country. After all, it is home to 39 wildlife refuges, 27 national parks, and more than 19 million acres of Important Bird Areas. The state also sits along the Pacific Flyway (which extends from Patagonia to Alaska), a major migratory route for eagles, herons, warblers, swallows, and flycatchers. So in addition to seeing the various native species, you will also have a high chance of seeing one of these visiting birds during the spring or fall migration periods.
