Zmudowski State Beach Details
As one of the more off-the-beaten-path destinations in Monterey, this state beach is a quiet place to admire the wild and rugged coastline. It is part of the Pajaro River Mouth Natural Preserve, which means it's the ideal setting for wildlife spotting and bird watching. Horseback riding on the shores is also allowed (but only on the west portion of the waterline). This is not the best beach for swimming or surfing, as the waters are too rough. However, it is a good place for fishing. Perch, kingfish, sole, flounder, halibut, bocaccio (tomcod), jacksmelt, lingcod, cabezon, and salmon are just a handful of species that you can find offshore.
