Senator Justin Morrill Historic Site Details

This property was the original homestead of Senator Justin Morrill, who is widely credited for establishing federal funding for public colleges and universities. He was also one of the longest-serving members of Congress and a founding father to the Republican party. Designed by Morrill himself, this Gothic-style home was built in 1851 on 3-acres of land in Stratford Village. While he lived there, he added a shuffleboard court, hothouse, and several livestock barns as well. The homestead is now a museum where you can see the original styles and furnishings of this time period.
